Unlike other characters, Lann has no actual self-defense skills, as opposed to Fiona's Guard & Heavy Stander, Evie's Mana Shield and Mana Amber, and Karok's Absorb Shock & Weaving.
Spears also have an extremely limited playstyle as they only have one smash enhancement (Moon Splitter) and one additional skill (Fury Infusion), while Swords have three smash enhancements (Gust Sting, Pummel Storm and Fanning Slash), two additional skills (Thousand Needles and Double Crescent), two dodge enhancements (Slip Dash Proficiency and Nimble Dash) and an additional SP skill (Active: Raging Fever).
On the other hand, Twin Spears are also quick, have greatly increased attack and critical rate and can recover Stamina quicker due to Fury Infusion, making him one of the top DPS (Damage Per Second) classes, but has a poor dodge mechanism, often causing them to take more hits. Twin Swords are quick and versatile, allowing one to slide around enemies and avoid their attacks via Slip Dash. It's a simple explanation but the skill of the person controlling Lann makes a large difference in combat success. Beside the aforementioned Support skills, Phantom Shard significantly reduce incoming damage to Sylas, Phantom Force automatically active giving Sylas a boost in defense and regenerate HP when Sylas's HP reach below 30%.Vindi Wiki: As one of the quickest melee combatants of the group, it is his responsibility to slice and dice while avoiding damage. Being a magic user, Sylas share the same weakness of being low defense until late level, but he is made up for it by boasting large amount of skills to substain himself.
Defensively, Sylas lacks any extra defense mechanic (Like Block, Mana Amber.) and had to solely rely on his Vision Dash and the great mobility of his attack to get out of harm way. And finally his most damaging skill Active: Extinction Roar, which can be stack up to deal 50% more damage while also make him Invincible upon activation. Active: Phantasmic Slash, Cyclone Edge and Cyclone Crash are great when Sylas need to take out horde of enemies. Phantom Shooter and Vision Trap allow Sylas to move swiftly across battlefield while dealing damage from a distance. Phantom Shard can be generate quickly and deal good amount of damage, striking enemies with Phantom Shards generated Phantom Force, further increase Sylas magic attack as well as giving him stamina regeneration. Sylas prefer striking enemies at mid range, generating Phantom Shards then launch it at enemies with his smash. Sylas come with his own unique support ability Active: Soul Drain that act like a mini- Succubus Fang, with extremely short cooldown allow him to keep it up at all time if he choose to. His support skill Active: Illusion Shield is similar to Active: Regeneration and Active: Impulse Zone have the similar stamina regen effect like Active: Insane Reaper, One can say that Sylas's skill is inferior in some aspect compared to its Evie's counterpart, with a glaring weakness of only affect 4 party members or being limited into a zone, but remember Sylas's skill require much less Sp than Evie's, and they also have an extra effect of reducing incoming damage. Sylas is a hybrid character between Staff and Scythe Evie, having similar yet still different skills.
